WANA (Apr 23) – Since last night, some Lebanese media outlets have reported that Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, may be summoned by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry over his recent remarks on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Amani had written on X: “The issue of ‘disarmament’ is a clear American conspiracy. While the United States arms the Zionist regime with the most advanced weapons and missiles, it prevents the arming and strengthening of other armies. Once countries surrender and agree to disarmament, they become vulnerable to attack and occupation, just like Iraq, Libya, and Syria.”

Ambassador Amani, in an interview with a Lebanese television network, clarified that he had been invited by Hani Chemaitelly, the Secretary General of Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but he stated that he was currently busy and a new appointment would be arranged later.

Regarding the issue of disarming Hezbollah, Amani emphasized: “We are committed to whatever the Lebanese agree upon. There is still occupation in Lebanon, and there are groups seeking to defend themselves and asking for help.”

He continued: “We do not oppose an agreement between Lebanese parties. The Resistance builds everything it needs. The issue of the Resistance and its weapons is linked to the government and domestic consensus, and Iran’s opinion is not needed in this regard.”

He also asserted: “Hezbollah and Hamas have not been defeated. The number of martyrs gives us strength. The Resistance will emerge stronger from these wars. And I am not only speaking about Lebanon. Iran continues to support the oppressed and has not backed down from this humanitarian commitment.”

Addressing reports that Iranian flights have been prevented from landing in Lebanon, Amani explained: “The suspension of flights is due to perceived threats, and we understand Lebanon’s position. Iran-Lebanon relations remain normal and excellent.”

“I am in contact with ministers and all sectors of Lebanon. The talk of strained relations is not accurate. Israel is trying to portray itself as victorious through such narratives,” Amani stated.

He added that Iran is interested in contributing to Lebanon’s reconstruction and is currently in talks with some international parties. Iran also maintains cooperation with the Lebanese government with the aim of rebuilding the country.

Furthermore, Amani noted that, so far, there has been no formal invitation from the Iranian presidency for Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to visit Tehran. He said Aoun is currently focused on managing the aftermath of the ongoing conflict.

Amani concluded by stressing that Iran does not accept being forced to choose between peace and war. “Indirect negotiations with the Americans are limited to nuclear activities and the lifting of sanctions. Discussions about negotiations on other issues, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to promote, are baseless.”
